Chapman Brothers

Our first task was inspired by "Where's Wally?" and Chapman Brothers.

Chapman Brothers are visual artists. Their subject is to concentrate on photos that are vulgar, offensive, etc. Chapman brothers brought Goya's etchings and they transfered them and then they added funny faces to it.

My photograph is similar to Champan Brothers work because we both added something to original photograph, we also manipulated image. Both our photos are black and white, on this photo on the left only its face is in colour. Both mine and theirs photographs are manipulated because what they did was they did sketches of some etchings of Goya's and added funny faces to it, I also did image manipulation and to do that I used Photoshop to cut me out from one photo and stick me on to another famous street photograph. My photo is one individual image but what Chapman Brothers did is series of etchings like that because they have done many photos illustrating Goya's etchings with funny faces on it. Mine and theirs photos are not of the same subject. The subject of their photo series was to add funny faces to vulgar and offensive photographs. My image is not sending the same message as theirs photos because their images are offensive and people might not like them because of what they did, they drawn funny faces onto persons face. They used etchings and paint and we used photos and they were made in Photoshop.

Task 1

For this mini task we had to pick a famous street photograph and go out with it and tell our friend to take photo of us so then we could put ourselves. I choose this photograph because it's busy, not boring and a lot is happening on there. To complete this task I used Canon 400D camera and Photoshop.

First thing I had to do was changing photograph of me to black and white as the original photo is also B&W.

Then I used 'Lasso tool' to go around myself to select me, I had to be careful because of my hair so I clicked on 'Erase' and the on 'Quick mask mode' so i could erase unwanted bits of photo.
.
This is how it looked after, I then could drag myself to original photo and place myself on there.

This screen grab shows what I put myself onto the photograph.

FINAL PHOTOGRAPH

I like my final photograph because when you first look at it you not seem to find me and that was the point of it because the idea was taken from 'Where's Wally?'. The idea was take from there because we had to place ourselves so then other people had problems with finding us.

Introduction - Homage to...

For this assignment we have been given six weeks to select photograph taken by someone else which we are then asked to copy. We can chose which ever photo we want, it can be any artist that inspires us. We need to observe every detail of the image so then our image will look the same. This assignment will test our skills at the camera and editing process. Through this assignment we will complete several Photoshop mini tasks. We are also asked to look how other photographers have used image manipulation in their work: layering, cloning, transforming and many other techniques.
